Zoomarine is really a theme park with something for everyone. Like many parks of this ilk it is concerned with marine conservation. The attractions include a small funfair, a museum, a marine aquarium, outdoor bathing pools with adjoining area, cafes, green areas, bird displays, reptiles, dolphin shows and more. Zoomarine is about 30 minutes drive from Lagos. As well as the animals and the museums there are several attractions including the Big Wheel, pirate boat, flume ride, mini roller-coaster… and just the right amount of adrenaline. Zoomarine has an excellent web site which will give you a good impression of what is on offer, current prices and opening times and you can book on line before you travel if you wish. There are special rates for dolphin interaction, school parties, birthdays and special events. Our daughter has been on the dolphin interaction at this park and recommended it in preference to the dolphin interaction in Florida at Discovery Cove.

Just a 30-minute drive from Lagos, Slide & Splash is one of the larger water parks in the Algarve and offers a great choice of attractions for children of all ages. Recently the park opened a special area dedicated to children and this is ideal for young swimmers who may not be confident going down the larger slides or for those who cannot swim. This area includes water cannons, fountains and plenty of bridges and little slides to keep those under five entertained in the shallow waters. Older children and adults will move quickly from this area to the bigger and more adrenaline packed slides in the park, which are dotted about a man-made mountain, with each having it’s own little path leading to it giving a sense of adventure as you discover the new slides. When you are not on the slides then you can lie in the sun in the grassy areas that surround the main attractions. There is plenty of space for everyone but if you want to keep costs down then bring you own sun shade rather than renting shades and loungers from the park. You can take your own food into the park for a picnic or can buy food on site as well as ice creams and cold drinks which are reasonably priced for a closed attraction.
